EL SALVADOR

Portraits

After signing a peace agreement in 1992, El Salvador managed to emerge from a bitter and violent civil war. Since the end of the conflict, the country has made considerable progress establishing peace and democracy. Yet poverty levels and unemployment rates remain high.

In 2010, I traveled with a group of students from the Harvard Graduate School of Education to El Salvador to help local organizations build libraries in rural schools. Alongside the darkness of scant resources and uncertain times, I found vidid colors and generous people hoping for a brighter future.
