100th Birthday

Posted on Jun 22, 2015

Happy 100th birthday to this fashionista, my grandmother-in-law, Beatrice Sweeney. Bea was born on June 17, 1915–the same year Billie Holiday and Frank Sinatra were born. Woodrow Wilson was president and WWI was just beginning.

Bea has lived her whole life in Saratoga Springs, where she served for years as the city historian.

Inside Out

Posted on May 13, 2015

On March 2, 2011, JR won the TED prize at the TED Conference in Long Beach, California, and called for the creation of a global participatory art project with the potential to change the world. This project is called INSIDE OUT.

Annie Ward Love, a senior at Freeman High School in Richmond, VA, helped bring INSIDE OUT to her high school cafeteria where the diverse student body often remains segregated. Students, teachers, and staff galvanized around the idea, hoping that the portraits will help everyone to truly see each other.

University of Richmond

Posted on Apr 13, 2015

This winter/spring I produced two videos for the University of Richmond–both amazing and inspiring projects!

First, Partners in the Arts (PIA) trains educators to integrate the arts into their preK-12 curriculum. PIA offers an institute ever summer to support teachers in building lesson plans and engage in collaborative practices that can be taken back into the classroom.

Secondly, the Bonner Center for Civic Engagement (CCE) connects UR and Richmond communities in collaborative and sustained partnerships. To celebrate the CCE’s 10th anniversary, I created a video with voices from alumni and footage of current students and projects.

Nieces

A few weeks ago I visited my twin nieces in Boston. We were trapped inside during the snow storm, so I got a lot of footage! This is a sequel to the video I made when they were 1-month old:
